This course is accepted by all Florida courts that require IDI attendance
The 8-hour Florida traffic school course, also known as "Intermediate Driver Improvement" or IDI, is an option given to drivers who have already taken a 4-hour Basic Driver Improvement course for a Florida traffic ticket within the previous year. In most cases, drivers who attend this course will not receive points for their traffic citation.
This option is generally available to drivers on a county-by-county or court-by-court basis. Drivers who need to take this course will have signed an affidavit indicating that they are electing to attend the 8-hour course. In some cases, a driver might be ordered by a Florida judge or court to attend this course, and points might or might not be assessed for the offense at the discretion of the court.
IDI courses are not regulated by the Florida DHSMV and therefore are not "State approved." DTA's online 8-hour traffic school course is accepted by all Florida counties that offer the 8-hour traffic school option to drivers.
This course is NOT an Aggressive Driving or DWLSR Course!
In certain cases, a driver will be ordered by the court to attend an 8-hour aggressive driving course. This course is NOT an aggressive driving course. If you need an aggressive driving course, please locate a school in your area that teaches the aggressive driving course. Florida courts will not accept an IDI course certificate for an aggressive driving offense.
This course is also not a Driving While License Suspended or Revoked course (DWLSR). You should contact the Florida DHSMV if you have been ordered to attend an 8-hour DWLSR course. An IDI course certificate will not be accepted in place of a DWLSR course certificate.
Reporting Your Completion to the Court
Please note that it is your responsibility to report your IDI course completion to the Florida court. Most Florida counties require an original certificate from the person who completes the 8-hour course, so we recommend that you make a copy of your completion certificate to keep for your records before turning the original certificate in to the court. If you do not fulfill your requirements to the court, your license will be suspended.
