Frequently Asked Questions
Is this course accepted by Florida courts?
Yes. This 8-hour online traffic school course is accepted by all Florida clerks of the court. The course provider, DTA, has been a DHSMV approved traffic school since 1977.
Who should take the 8-hour traffic school course?
This course can be taken by anyone who needs a standard 8-hour traffic school course. Courts sometimes refer to this course as "Intermediate Driver Improvement" or IDI.
Drivers who take this course have usually already attended a 4-hour basic driver improvement course within the past year. Some Florida courts give drivers the option to keep points off for a second ticket by attending an 8-hour course. You can also take this online course if a court has ordered you to attend an 8-hour course.
Is this an Aggressive Driving / DWLSR course?
NO. This course does not qualify as an Aggressive Driving or DWLSR course. Those courses are also 8 hours but they must be taken in a classroom. Click here for information about Aggressive Driving courses.
Can I change my registration information?
You cannot change your registration information while you are in the course. If you need to change your information, please call DTA at 1-800-222-9199 for assistance before you attempt the final exam.
How is my completion reported?
Once you receive your certificate of completion, you will need to turn it in to the clerk of the court for the county in which you received your ticket. DTA does not report completions to individual courts. If you fail to turn your certificate in to the court, the court will report you to DHSMV as a "failure to complete" and your license will be suspended. You must turn your certificate in to the court on or before the due date given to you by the court.
Do you offer express shipping?
Yes. During registration and after you pass the final exam you will see the available express shipping options. You can also call DTA at 1-800-222-9199 to request this service by phone.
Can you fax my certificate to the court?
If you would like for us to fax your completion certificate to the court, please contact the court first to obtain their permission. Be sure to get the court's fax number and the name of the person who will receive the fax.
Next, call DTA at 1-800-222-9199 between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. You will need to pay a small fee to have your certificate faxed to the court. Fax orders are taken up to 2 PM and we cannot guarantee that the court will receive or acknowledge the fax transmission. It will be your responsibility to make sure the court received the fax from us.
Note: We recommend faxing of your completion certificate only as a last resort. Not all Florida courts will accept a fax. As an alternative to faxing, some courts might permit an extension of your due date if you have waited until the last minute to send in your certificate.
How can I get in touch with a live person?
For fastest service, please call our toll free Florida customer support number: 1-800-222-9199. You can also send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Eastern Standard Time.
Is the course all reading?
No, unlike most Florida traffic school courses, ours uses video and interactive Flash cartoons to keep you interested in the material. Our students prefer this learning style to courses that are 100% reading!
I lost my login code. How can I get it back?
If you lose your login code, go to the course login page. You will see a box that says "I forgot my login." Enter your driver license number in the box and click the "Remind Me" button. Your login code will be sent to the e-mail address you provided when you registered for the course. If you are unable to retrieve your login code, please contact us for assistance.
How does the refund policy / money back guarantee work?
DTA offers a 100% money back guarantee for our 8-hour traffic school course. If you are dissatisfied with the course for any reason, you can contact us for a full refund of your course fee within seven (7) days of registration provided that you have not yet attempted the final exam.
Partial refunds will be given within eight (8) to twenty-one (21) days after registration provided that the final exam has not been attempted. Please consult the acknowledgments page during registration for complete details regarding our cancellation / refund policies.
How long is the course?
Per court requirements, the course requires a minimum of eight hours to complete. Unit timers are used to ensure that each student spends the required amount of time in the course. Please note that some students read more quickly than others, so we appreciate your patience if you reach the end of a unit before the timer has expired.
You can log in and out as many times as you need, and we keep track of your progress so you never lose any of your work. You must complete the course within 180 days from your date of registration. After 180 days, your course access will be suspended.
Why do I have to answer security questions?
During registration, you will be required to answer a number of security questions (e.g. "Have you ever been to Europe?"). You will be asked the same questions again at random points in the course, and you will be required to respond correctly within a certain time. These questions are required by DHSMV to validate the identity of the person taking the course. If you miss three questions, you will be disqualified from the course and prompted to contact us for further instructions.
What score is required to pass the final exam?
A score of at least 80% is required to pass the 40-question final exam. (You are not allowed to miss more than eight questions.) If you do not pass on your first try, you can take the exam up to ten times before you will be prompted to contact us for further assistance. Most customers pass on their first or second attempt.
